The Millville Boardwalk

You would think that the Delaware beaches have enough entertainment complexes to keep all the locals and visitors... well, entertained. When I heard that yet another was being built inland from the beaches, I must admit to a great deal of skepticism. There seemed to be two problems to me: the first, who needs another mini golf course and the second, who is going to bother to drive three and half miles west of Bethany to find it?

Turns out, lots of people will and have. I was hanging out with my niece and nephew this past weekend and we decided to go check it out. Both kids are teenagers and both have seen great mini golf courses and great arcades. I expected them to be a bit bored by it all.

Again, I was wrong.

What does make the Millville Boardwalk a bit different is the fact that it combines mini golf, an arcade, and food all together. With loads of parking (something you will not find closer to the beaches) and prices that are very slightly lower than the beaches, it is a great option to escape the crowds for a few hours.

The mini golf course is an adequately laid out 18 hole course that is moderately challenging. It is not as difficult as many in the area and there are not a lot of fun obstacles, but it made for a good round of golf. The three of us agreed that there are several others close by we would prefer to play, but we were glad that we tried this one. This would be a great course for little ones who are just beginning to play the game.

The arcade was surprisingly good, filled with games suitable for all ages. The three of us spent an hour putting tokens into machines and playing everything from skeeball to Ms. PacMan. My nephew found a Deal or No Deal machine and sat on that for a while making friends with a family who was watching him. My niece and I, meanwhile, were playing something where rabbits shoot plungers at you. I never did figure it out, so lost badly.

In the end, we left with some goodies, some tickets, and some tokens for the next trip.

Of course, we couldn't leave without trying the ice cream from Agape Creamery. The waffle cones are homemade and the ice cream is divine. It was a tad sweet for me, but the kids loved it.

Millville Boardwalk is a great addition to the beach entertainment scene. The games are fun; the food is good; and, you can escape the crowds for a while. Recommended.
