Ten Simple Rules When Dining Out

I have spent a lot of time waiting tables and, in general, I love it. I get to move around; I get to meet a lot of different people; I get to walk away at the end of the shift.

I am constantly astonished, however, by the behavior of some people when they come out to eat. I have, therefore, made up a list of the top ten rules everyone should follow when they eat in a restaurant.

A Small Town Fourth of July

Although I loved living in London and there are times when I miss it desperately, more often I am thrilled to be home. Yesterday was one of those days. The English, for obvious reasons, do not recognize the 4th as a holiday of any kind. In fact, most years I had to work on that date. I never let it pass without some small celebration, but it never felt quite right. For the first time since 1999, I was able to celebrate the 4th as it should be done.

The Sea

My Beach
Today is World Ocean’s Day. In honor of this momentous event, my friend Cris, who writes two wonderful blogs, asked those of us who also blog to post something that she could share with others. I have wanted to post a blog about my love of the sea for some time, so I thought today would be the appropriate time. Because other writers have also loved the sea, I decided to structure it around my five favorite quotes on the subject and tell you all why these quotes mean as much to me as they do.

Night With A Psychic

Do you believe in psychics? The rational part of my mind has always been a tad skeptical when it comes to people who claim they can either see the future or commune with the dead. As I have gone through life, however, I have seen, heard about and had experiences that have certainly forced me to keep an open mind on the subject.

What I've Been Watching

I have seen some great television over the past several months. The movies and shows below are how I got through the end of winter.

Let's Go Fly A Kite

Let's go fly a kite
Up to the highest height!
Let's go fly a kite and send it soaring
Up through the atmosphere
Up where the air is clear
Oh, let's go fly a kite!

Today dawned bright, clear and with the promise of a little bit of warmth. I was up at the crack of dawn to do a small job for Mom, having every intention of writing the day away. Sometimes, however, it is just too pretty to sit inside at a computer. When one is given a day like today, the only thing to do is to get outside and enjoy it. So, I packed up my camera, my notepad and my list of things I wanted to see and headed north to Cape Henlopen State Park.

Dexter Series One Finale

Dexter is one of those shows that I have been meaning to catch for the longest time. I finally finished the first season last night and, surprisingly, have a lot to say about it. This review contains spoilers, so if you haven’t seen the first season and want to, open at your own risk.

January's Movies

I watched very few movies in January (for me), but here is my take on the ones I did see.

Greenwich Village Walking Tour

I woke up Thursday morning with no idea what I was going to do for the day as I had nothing in the diary until early evening. I toyed with the idea of a museum, but it was such a lovely day that I decided to do a long walk. As I was staying not far from Greenwich Village and as I don't know that part of Manhattan very well, I did a search online and found this walking tour. I highly recommend it as I was able to find all kinds of hidden nooks and crannies within the Village.

Eating and Drinking Through Manhattan

I spent a lot of last week eating and drinking my way through lower Manhattan. Although I lived in and near The City for eleven years, I had never really spent much time in Greenwich Village and the Meatpacking District when I left was just that, neither cool nor trendy. It was a wonderful experience to discover new parts of such a wonderful city.
